#IMIStories: Conquer

2018 was the best and the most difficult year of Myra’s life--a time of both success and sickness. This is her story.

My name is Myra Flores, and I’ve been a Production Operator at IMI for 16 years. During my stay here at the company, I experienced and learned a lot from my work and my colleagues. In 2018, we presented a Continuous Improvement Team (CIT) Project and our group won “Best Line”, and I was awarded as a “Best Operator”. It was my best year at work but I didn’t expect that it would also be the hardest and the most challenging year of my life.

Pulong-sulong awarding on October 26, 2018 as best operator, best group leader, and best supervisor. Myra is second from the left.  To be eligible for the best operator award, an employee must have an above-average performance appraisal the year before.

Last October 2018, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My world fell apart when I received the result of my biopsy. II never once thought that I would have this disease. I almost lost my mind thinking about how I could get through it. It took me a long time to come to terms with my diagnosis.

I needed to undergo surgery (mastectomy), chemotherapy, and radiotherapy to become cancer-free. I endured the pain and its stressful side effects such as burned skin and extreme hair loss. Despite all of these, I didn’t lose hope because of my family, my friends, and my colleagues who were there to encourage me and support my financial needs during the treatment. Having cancer made me realize that so many people loved and cared for me.

“During this pandemic, the situation became tougher but I’m still thankful to God because He supports me even in simple ways.” - Myra Flores, Production Operator

During this pandemic, the situation became tougher but I’m still thankful to God because He supports me even in simple ways. I know I still have a lot to go through in my life because of my illness but I will continue to face this battle for the sake of my family, work, and friends.

Thank you!
